The Northamptonshire town of Corby lies 23 miles north east of Northampton and once held its own race meeting. Corby was famous for its steelworks and equally famous for the number of Scottish workers employed in the industry. However, well before this industry became fully established the town held a horse race meeting on Tuesday 1st November 1842. The 3 mile Sweepstake for just 2 Sovereigns was won by Mr Johnson’s Virgina by a comfortable 2 lengths from Cheroot. There are no records of any further races being held in the town. |
